Then one day I was perusing TJ Maxx and found six awesome teacup & saucer sets on clearance for two bucks a pop. I bought 'em! But I was still worried about the drilling so they sat in my dining room waiting for me.
Then yesterday I said aw, heck I'm going for it! And...check it out! What was I waiting for?!
Supplies:
- 3 cup & saucer sets (or more if you want a taller lamp) - $6
- Epoxy - Gorilla Glue - $4.97
- Lamp kit - $9.97
- Drill & masonry bit - on hand
Step 2: Thread the lamp cord up through the stack of saucers and cups, then use the epoxy to glue them together. Make sure the stack is even and centered and let dry.
Step 3: Using the directions on the lamp kit, put together the lamp pieces. My kit came with an enormous harp which I did not use since most small shades attached around the lightbulb. I also needed to use a a small plastic tube to raise the socket up out of the top teacup. I just threaded the plastic tube on before the socket and used the gorilla glue to keep it in place.
Step 4: Flip the switch!
One down, one to go! Next I'm going to make a gorgeous shade to go with it and a cord cover. I'll be sure to show ya the finished project in my friend's daughter's room!
Thanks for visiting!

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous. I'm picturing one on my kitchen counter. Thanks for sharing the instructions.
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I'm in love with your PB knockoff -- who isn't!?!? I like yours better than the ones PB had -- wonderful job!!
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable! I could also see it with the cups and saucers slightly askew. (Don't know how hard that would be to drill, though.)
ReplyDeleteI have a stack of tea cups and saucers in my project bin for just this purpose. I still need to get a masonry bit. Yours looks great and so much cheaper than the PB price tag!
ReplyDeleteThat's so fun! I've always wanted to "make" a lamp! Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWarmly, Michelle
Wow! Great job! I can't wait to see what you do with the shade! :o)
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,

I'm definitely going to give this a try! Your lamp looks great...so professional! Great job.
ReplyDeleteI think cute ideas like this that you make are so much better than the mass produced versions.
ReplyDeleteThat is too cute. Thanks for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteAlways wanted to make these but wasn't sure about the drilling part. Is that a diamond bit that you used? You didn't have to tape the sit of where you drilled to prevent chipping? I have to try this!
ReplyDeleteThat turned out great!
