Were you scared of that post title? I crack myself up! Anyway...
Like many of you, I love to make the rounds at stores like Home Goods and TJ Maxx in pursuit of inexpensive home decor. Sometimes yard sales and thrift stores just don't have what I'm looking for or I'm too impatient to wait! I thought it would be fun to share some of the "cheap thrills" I've picked up at these stores and how I use them in decorating.
I've accumulated a bunch of great buys for the master bedroom and it's shaping up nicely so that's where we will start. Here's a snapshot of the master before we moved in from the real estate listing. It's just plain well…plain.
About a year ago we painted the room a dark grey/blue. We wanted the paint to coordinate with the fabric on our upholstered bed. Then I found curtain panels at TJ Maxx for $6.99 a piece. The colors are a perfect compliment to the gold/cream/brown tones in the bed. But I didn't have a curtain rod for months until I scored a lovely dark wood one in the clearance section at Ross for $14.99. I couldn't believe the luck! I also took down the blinds - hate those things. Here's the new window dressing.
Love it!
I have also been dying for something to put in the blank space over the bed. I got the idea in my head that the perfect thing would be a sunburst mirror. However, those babies can be outrageously expensive. But at Home Goods I came across this close relative and snatched it up for $24.99.

The hotel style bedding and accent pillows were also a great buy at Walmart. The colors matched so nicely I had to have it. All together I think I spent about $60 on the bedding. Totally cheap for king size.
With the new bedding, curtains and mirror I really feel like the room is coming together! It's so much cozier now.
Where do you get your cheap (decor) thrills?
Thanks for visiting!

I am in the middle of a bedroom redo too and thought about going with blue and brown but decided on black and white!!! I'm going to post pictures on my blog when it is all complete!!! The sunburst mirror above your bed is a great idea. I am still debating what to put over my bed. Some of my ideas are mirror(s), empty picture frames, an Uppercase Living saying or some kind of tree/branch, oh the list goes on and on. Hope I come up with something that I absolutely fall in love with. Anyway your room really came together and looks great! Good job.
ReplyDeletei was hoping for something a little more risque from this post, but the mirror is pretty sweet and sexy! ;)
ReplyDeleteI adore your bedroom!! And your bed is gorgeous! I need to finish my room before I post anything, but I have found some wonderful things at Big Lots....and the thrift stores of course. Thanks for letting us view your sanctuary.
ReplyDeleteLove the blue and brown. Looks great! I really like the way your living room is turning out as well. The updated look on your blog is wonderful! I love Marshalls and Home Goods too but of course I get my biggest decorating thrills at Chartreuse and Co!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love your blue walls. The sheets on my bed right now are that same color. Our walls are a shade or 2 lighter. I am so loving my blue room. Your brown and beige accents are so awesome too. We are using white and black accents currently.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like the color of my bedroom! The blue is so calming. Great finds!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so restful and nice, very well done!
ReplyDeleteIt looks really nice. Oh and I love the post title!! lol
ReplyDeleteLooking good! I am a Home Goods addict. It's such a thrill to wander in there and find something you've been after and for a fraction of the price.
ReplyDeleteI, um, went in for new sheets yesterday as a matter of fact and also came home w/a cool, new leather jacket that I'd never have splurged on at retail, but have been lusting after. yeeee!
