Thrifty Finds Monday - Craft Shelf Makeover

Remember this blue shelf I picked up at yard sale a few weeks ago?  It was just 4 dollars.
When I bought it the seller told me, "You look like a crafty gal.  I'm sure you will do something wonderful with that." I kept wondering how she could tell I planned to perform some crafty magic on her shelf!  Is it that obvious I'm scouting out my next project?  Does it say "Crifty" of my forehead?  Or maybe "Thrafty"? Anyway...here's the transformation.  I hope it makes yard sale lady proud!
I removed the back supports, flipped the arched piece to the front (to keep the paint from falling off the shelf), and added decorative moulding and a dowel for holding ribbon.  I also gave it all a coat of white paint and added a Bauhaus Gold plywood back.  The paint was giving me trouble so I experimented with the mod podged scrapbook paper on the shelves.  Here's a few closer shots of the paper.

I think it's pretty cute now!  I love organizing my craft goodies this way.  I'll definitely be experimenting with more Mod Podge projects soon.  And I have a few more craft room projects coming soon.

Thanks for visiting!

  7. That is so cute and helps keep things organized. Mine would have to be about 6 times larger to hold all my paints etc.

  22. I'm jealous. Someday, I won't have all my sewing stuff shoved in boxes under tables and hidden in closets, and I'll have a proper sewing area to work in.
