Friday I'm in Love...#6

Happy Friday everybody!  Here are some inspiring projects to kick off the weekend!

Donna from My Shabby Chateau made this jewelry organizer out of an old wall clock!  It looks great and this is her very first post so let's give her some comment love!
Traci from Three Dogs At Home had the fabulous idea to cover matchstick blinds with fabric!  What a thrifty way to update the existing window treatments.
Check out this adorable cabinet from Impatiently Praying for Patience.  Katie really customized the cabinet for her home and she has an very cute helper who works for chicken nuggets!

What a Week!

My kids have been sick since last Friday.  We have been stuck in the house FOR-EVA!  I wish I could say I got a lot accomplished in that time at home, but we mostly hung out in our PJs eating waffles and watching cartoons.

There have been some bright spots in the week though.  Apparently, you guys really liked my 3-piece wall art.  A LOT!  That posting received the most comments of any of my posts before or after (even my giveaway post…still going on…check it out!)!  And to top it off my project has been featured SIX times!!!  I still can't believe it!  Thanks so much for all you kind comments.  I am feeling the love for sure.

Several of you mentioned you plan to paint your own version.  I love that!  When you do, be sure to send me a picture and I'll show it off right here!

Now please check out the fabulous blogs who have featured me!  Join their weekly parties and you could be next!

Vinyl Makes Everything Better & My First Giveaway!!

Remember this quick little mailbox revamp I did a few weeks ago?
Nice...but it still needed something...
I really wanted to kick it up a notch with vinyl numbering but I was trying to keep costs down.  Well, Shelley from House of Smiths was kind enough to send me exactly what I was looking for from her awesome vinyl store Wonderfully Wordy.  Shelley's store has tons of great graphics and sayings for your home.  And the prices are A-mazing!  You simply must browse the offerings here.

So check out my new & improved mailbox revamp thanks to Shelley!
I love it-so much more of an impact with this fab vinyl numbering.  I'm sure the mailman (and the take-out delivery guy too) will appreciate numbers he can actually see from the street!

But the best part is that Shelley is offering to giveaway a set of vinyl number to one of my readers!    The lucky winner will be able to give their mailbox a fab update as well!  A big Thanks to Shelley for allowing me to host my first giveaway!

To enter:
  1. Go to Wonderfully Wordy and browse Shelley's amazing vinyl offerings.  You'll find super cute sayings for your laundry room, kitchen, family and more!  Leave a comment telling me which is your fav.
  2. Follow this blog and leave a comment that you are a follower. (If you are already a follower, just leave me a comment saying so.)
  3. Become of follower at House of Smith's or Wonderfully Wordy or both and let my know via another comment.

Thrifty Finds Monday - Framed, Again!

So I don't know how you like to spend your Friday evenings, but I think hitting the thrift shop with one of my best friends is a great time!  Usually I do my thrift store and yard sale shopping with the kids or by myself.    So this week it was a treat to go treasure hunting with my friend G from Seams & Selvage.  See, G has been a great friend of mine since grad school and she's a frugal, crafty girl too!  She just started her own blog about her adventures in sewing so please check it out!

Together we had a great time at a huge thrift shop near my house.  It tends to be a bit pricier than smaller thrift shops but the selection can't be beat. It was fun to troll the aisles looking for deals and checking out the wacky items on hand.

Altogether I spent $23 for 6 items.  I picked up these 3 botanical framed prints and a decorative white frame.  I'm collecting different botanical prints to create a large grouping on my living room wall so these are perfect.
I also found a divided wooden tray (not sure what I'm going to do with that) and a plaster finial originally from The Great Indoors.  The finial totally looks like Pottery Barn right?

G was looking for vintage bed sheets for sewing projects.  There were a lot of linens for us to peruse.
Hop on over to her blog here to see what she picked up on our trip!

Friday I'm in Love...#5

Before we get to the fun stuff I'm in love with this week, I want to take a moment to THANK each and every one of you for visiting, commenting and following.  My blog reached the 100 followers mark yesterday and I'm just so excited!  I wasn't sure how this blog thing was going to work out when I started posting my crafty DIY projects but I'm so glad that you are enjoying my posts and maybe finding some thrifty inspiration!  I've got some giveaways in the works to commemorate this milestone…so stay tuned for details!

My first love this week is this fab tutorial by Avid Accents for a $20 Catherine Malandrino knock-off necklace (with a $895 price tag) using soda cans!  Talk about recycling!
A Full Cottage brings us the coolest (and most inexpensive) DIY Ceiling Medallion around!  No need to visit the hardware store- just use a pretty painted tray!
Last the Fickle Hobbyist posted this great step-by-step chair reupholstery project.  I just couldn't resist the gorgeous fabric!
Please click on each of these great projects to check out the full details and if you've been featured be sure to grab my button and pin it on!

Have a great weekend and thanks for visiting!

DIY Wall Art - My Masterpiece

I'm so excited about this project!  I've been working on it for the last three days during nap time and in the evenings.  At times I was so impatient to finish it!  I needed something to go in this blank space above the entertainment center in the family room.  Here's what I came up with for about $8.00 and change.
We hung it way up here.  It took some serious ladder action.
After some careful measurements and a few acrobatic maneuvers we have this!
I love it!  It's the perfect filler for the blank space created by the cathedral ceiling and it brings the fireplace wall color over to this side of the room.

Here's how I did it.  I grabbed a couple of two packs of 16x20 canvases at Michael's last week when they were on sale for $5.98.  Plus, I had a 40% off coupon!   I also picked up extra white craft paint for two dollars.

When I got home I painted three of the canvases with blue paint that we used on the opposite side of the room.  When that was dry, I sketched the tree on to the canvas with a pencil and then painted it with the craft paint.  It definitely needed two coats of paint.

My inspiration was this set of 3 tree canvas panels from JC Penney.
Source: JCP.com
I'm not an artist and up close it's not perfect.  But the imperfections give the tree some texture and depth - like actual bark (well, that's what I'm telling myself anyway).  Either way the canvases are hung up so high no one is getting such a close look at it!

Blog in Bloom & Yard Improvement Project

Hey there!  I've been working all evening on a cool project the I want to share with you tomorrow.  I hope it will be done by then.  *fingers crossed*

Anyway, you may have noticed a change in my blog lately.  When I saw this cute cherry blossom theme at The Background Fairy I knew I needed it!  Why?  Because this is DC (well, suburban Maryland) and these babies in my yard are so GORG!
Too bad they are starting to lose their petals! sniff sniff!

Since the weather has been so nice the hubs and I have been working on some landscaping projects.  The area by our deck has been bothering me since we moved in two years ago.  In the Summer it's a gnarly weed jungle!  But this year will be different.

My husband put down thick, weed blocking plastic and then we added new stepping stones and mulch!  Love it and I'm not embarrassed to have people over!

Here's the sort-of before.  The hubs got to work before I could take a pic.  Imagine crazy weeds everywhere!
And here's the after.  AAAhhhhh!
Now I just need to dress up this area.  Can you convince the hubs that some flowers and a bench would just be perfect here?

Thrifty Finds Monday - On a Roll

It was great weekend for yard sales.  I managed to hit a ton of them in 2 hours time.  I didn't find much in the way of home decor.  But I did score these two picture frames.
I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them but they have a nice distressed look and were only $1 each.    When I got home I realized they would look great on the mantle with my window pane mirror.
I'm really happy with how the frames add interest and height on the left side of the mantle!  All for $2.00!
But the best part of my yard sale trip is actually this first thing I found.  My son was super excited when I pulled this out of the truck.
Just $15.00 for this 12" bike with training wheels!  Sure beats full price.  According to the Schwinn website the suggested retail price is $119!  YIKES!  Now we need to hit the thrift shop for a helmet...

What did great finds did you pick up this week?
