Christmas Blogger Stylin' Home Tours: The Thriftress

You guys.  I am so excited today to be part of the Christmas Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours hosted by Lindsay at The White Buffalo Styling Co.   If you are popping over from Jenna of Rain on a Tin Roof, thanks so much for stopping by!

This home tour commitment has been a real blessing this year.  It has helped me to get the house decked out earlier than usual so we can enjoy it!  Especially since we will be out of town on Christmas.

Our family room has a high beamed ceiling and a floor to ceiling stone fireplace covering two thirds of one wall.  It lends itself nicely to a cozy lodge look and we love to be cozy in the room where we spend most of our time!
I usually accessorize with aqua and yellow in this room but for Christmas it's all red, white and gold.  I made these red plaid pillows this year by stuffing Target placemats with polyfil.
When it comes to decorating the mantel, as you can see I have to go big!  I scored the wood star from a friend's shop.  The original raw wood wasn't popping against the stone wall so I dry brushed the star with Pearl Plaster for a nice sheen.
I added more red to the room by mixing two new fair isle stockings in with two of our white fur ones. Love them with the alternating red and silver initial tags!  (Tip: I stuffed cardboard in the stocking to keep them from looking a little limp.)
I added a line from O Holy Night to the chalkboard to tie in with the big star.  I also wrapped red flannel ribbon around my white and gold vases for a little more color.  The white branchses were a great deal at Home Depot.
The coffee table has more red accents.  A red tray with a super cool graphic black and white candleholder from Ikea, red and gold ornaments and a bit of greenery from the yard.
The tree - we only have one this year since we will be away - is also in the family room.  The decorations are red, gold, rustic and woodland.  And this year Santa is keeping watch too!  I scored the vintage blow mold at the thrift store last year.  Love, LOVE him.

The tree may be in a galvanized tub but I love using my no sew red felt and burlap tree skirt underneath the tub too!
I wanted to try out Jesse's Easiest Tree Garland Ever this year to add extra dimension to the tree.  But grape vine wreaths were sold out.  Clearly everyone is reading Scout and Nimble and there's now a grapevine wreath shortage!  I had to settle for grape vine garland which is just not as beefy.  Next year I'm getting my grape vine wreaths early.

In the past I haven't done a lot of decorating in the kitchen but recently I added new shelves above the buffet that are perfect for display.

Of course the bull got a Christmas wreath for the season.  I found the Santa placemats at the thrift store. They are the same as the ones my Mom had when I was a kid!
Two of my favs together on the table: ironstone & vintage ornaments!

Over the sink I hung a wreath and snowflake garland in the window.  Snowy trees and a vintage Christmas platter flank the sink as well.  A little Christmas cheer here makes doing the dishes more tolerable.
Our last stop on the tour is the living room which recently went through a fireplace transformation.  I changed up the mantel and bookshelves a bit by adding mercury glass trees, vintage ornaments and a pine branch from the yard.

A simple pine bough is a simple touch of Christmas on the hearth.  I stuck it in a wine jug I was hoarding.  It pays to be both a wine jug chugging wino and a hoarder!
On the shelves and coffee table I used my go to simple Christmas decorating secret - Put an ornament on it!  Or in it or under it!  The vintage ornaments and garlands are from my stash and the nutcrackers are dollar store scores spray painted gold and silver.
My friends on the side table received a vintage shiny brite as well and a snazzy new tray from Michael's.  The lamp is actually a makeover of this lamp.  It recently got a coat of Paris Grey.
Above the sofa is a large world map.  I added gold vinyl letters using my Silhouette to spell out "Joy to the World".  I usually put up my vintage tree in the living room but this year I'm loving this simple touch instead.  So easy to remove when Christmas is over too!
Thanks for joining me for the Christmas Home Tour.  Merry Christmas!
